Family Church Adventurer Joins Overland Missions
13 Jul 2010
In 2005 when Fiona Nice became a Christian she quickly found her life changed beyond recognition, but now, five years on it looks set to change again. From serving as a youth pastor with Family Church she is now about to embark on a new chapter in her walk with God, taking on a full time missions role with Overland Missions.
The new role means a whole new life, in a new country, and has come about as the result of meeting the man of her dreams last year. His name is David Killough and he is Overland's Director of Recruiting. Fiona, from Portsmouth, and David met after her brother had introduced them back in October 2009. David is from Phoenix, Arizona and was visiting the UK to recruit missionaries for Overland's evangelical expeditions.
Now engaged, Fiona says of their meeting: "I knew from the outset that David is totally committed to sharing the love of Christ to the nations and whilst this was appealing to me I spent a good amount of time praying before we started a relationship because I knew the seriousness of my decision to join him in the missions field. It literally means a whole life change and I couldn't be happier."
As a teenager she had been driven and ambitious, and made her way around different parts of the world curious about other cultures, and keen to discover her own identity. But when she gave her life to Christ she felt the time was right to stay at home and build her relationship with God. Five years later however, that same curiosity never having left her, she is eager to get underway with her new life. She says: "I feel totally blessed at the life God has given me. The last five years He has blown my mind with all He's shown me, but when I think about the opportunity that stands before me I am left in awe at what he is able to do with my simple prayer and desire to serve Him."
So what does the future hold? Fiona is preparing to join David in Florida, at the Overland office, where they will be based when not in the missions field. She is currently waiting for her visa to be approved and in the meantime is planning their wedding and raising the support she needs to work for Overland full time. The two of them are supported through monthly financial partners, and already Fiona feels she's seen God's miraculous provision at work: "I trust God when he says that we shall have cups that overflow, and although I have a way to go before I have all the financial partners I need; I have already experienced abundant blessing through the partnerships that people have set up with us."
Fiona will be a Graphic Designer and Project Manager for Overland Missions and together she and David will also lead teams in sub-Saharan Africa and Brazil, areas David currently ministers in. This will be a far cry from the life she leaves settled in her home church and teaching job in a local college.
Fiona is looking to network with churches and individuals before she leaves for America, with a view to share more about Overland Missions, offer people the chance to get involved and raise awareness of Overland’s work.
